Introducing SacGroceries: Sacramento's Free Grocery Price Tracker

What is SacGroceries?

Grocery prices in Sacramento vary wildly from store to store. The same dozen eggs can cost $3 at one place and $7 at another. But nobody has time to check 19 different stores every week. That's why we built SacGroceries.

SacGroceries is a free, community-driven price tracker. We collect real prices from stores across the Sacramento metro area — from discount chains like Grocery Outlet and Foods Co. to specialty shops like Sac Co-op and 99 Ranch Market. Everything is searchable, sortable, and updated weekly.

No app to download, no account required. Just open the site, search for what you need, and see who has the best price right now. You can also build a shopping list that automatically finds the cheapest store for each item.

What we found in our first week

Between February 25 and March 1, we logged 72,720 prices across 19 stores. Here's how average prices break down by store.

Averages reflect each store's full catalog. Stores with larger selections (like Target) tend to skew higher because they carry more non-grocery items. Discount stores like Trader Joe's and Grocery Outlet have lower averages because they carry fewer premium products.

Average price by category

Meat and pantry items top the list for average price, while produce and beverages come in lower. These averages span all stores in our first-week dataset.

What's next

This is just the start. We're adding more stores, tracking weekly sale prices, and building tools to help you save more — like a smart shopping list that finds the cheapest combination of stores for your grocery run. We'll publish weekly recaps so you can see what's getting cheaper and where the deals are.

If you shop at a store we don't cover yet, let us know. And if you spot a price that looks wrong, you can submit corrections right from the site. This is a community project — the more people contribute, the better it gets for everyone.
